When an asphalt pavement surface deteriorates to the point of needing repair, an asphalt overlay is an effective solution. A standard asphalt overlay consists of a new layer of asphalt applied over the existing asphalt surface. The thickness of an overlay should range 1 ½ to 2 inches, but type and amount of traffic as well as individual customer’s needs are also considered. We offer paving fabrics as an optional addition to our overlay process if needed.
An asphalt overlay is a great option for pavement surfaces when:
Asphalt patching is one of the most cost effective ways to protect the asphalt surface and foundation.
When repairing potholes you get an instant improvement in safety and looks, while protecting your asphalt against further damage and erosion.
Like potholes, asphalt cracks can escalate the erosion of your asphalt and cause tripping hazards.
Cracks that are not filled allow the water to penetrate below the asphalt. When this happens it allows water to freeze and expand. When left untreated these cracks typically turn into large holes and/or alligatored areas. Filling the cracks with a crack filler is one of the best ways to stop the decay and deterioration of the asphalt.
By protecting your asphalts surface with a sealer it will save you money over time. By sealing your new asphalt on a regularly scheduled maintenance program it can extend the asphalt life and reduce the risk of other costly repairs.
We use several types of sealers including SS1-h, Gilsonite, Chip Seal and Slurry Seal.
